Ir.
Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, M.M. was born in Manggar, East Belitung, June 29, 1966;
52 years old. He is known as Ahok. He is the Governor of DKI Jakarta who served
from November 19, 2014 to May 9, 2017. He is an Indonesian citizen of ethnic
Chinese and the first Protestant Christian who became Governor of DKI Jakarta.
On
November 14, 2014, he was officially announced to be the Jakarta Governor of
successor Joko Widodo, through a special plenary meeting at the DKI Jakarta
DPRD Building. He was officially appointed as Governor of DKI Jakarta by
President Joko Widodo on November 19, 2014 at the State Palace, after
previously serving as Acting Governor from October 16 to November 19, 2014.
Since
DKI Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo took a sabbatical to become presidential
candidate in the 2014 Indonesian Presidential Election, Basuki Tjahaja Purnama
was appointed as Acting Governor of DKI Jakarta on June 1, 2014. After being
elected in the 2014 Presidential Election, 16 October 2014 Joko Widodo
officially resigned as Governor of DKI Jakarta. Automatically, Basuki becomes
Acting Governor of DKI Jakarta. Basuki continued his position as Acting
Governor of the DKI Jakarta with the support of Gerindra and PDIP, but after
opposition to the Regional Election Bill he lost support from Gerindra. While
PDIP support was obtained from Deputy Governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat. He then
tried to advance again to become a Governor Candidate through an (independent)
path, but then decided to use a stretcher from the party.
For
improving performance and reducing Corruption, Ahok also then held an auction
for sub-district heads, village heads and school principals whose targets were
at least afraid that officials from the provincial government would play better
with the budget and public services. Some of Ahok's efforts to overcome the
flooding and at the same time regulate the tidiness of the City of Jakarta such
as; by cleaning the times of garbage and moving the settlers of the Kali to
several flats in Jakarta. Finally, relocating residents who occupy state land
in Kali Jodoh in a high-rise house. He also managed to curb the Tanah Abang
Market from street vendors who had previously jammed the road. He also tried to
build a cancer hospital so that Indonesians would not go to Singapore if they
had cancer. Unfortunately, the plan didn't work because there were many
obstacles and also criticism from various parties.
On
May 9, 2017, Basuki was sentenced to two years in prison by the North Jakarta
District Court judges for blasphemy. In the prison, he also wrote a book called
'Ahok Policy' with the intention that all the policies he had taken and thought
of when becoming a public official, could be valuable lessons for us to study
and criticize together and could be understood. In prison, he also had to
accept the harsh reality of having to part with his beloved wife Veronica Tan.
On January 24, 2019, Basuki was released from prison.

After
I gave the wallet, I immediately said goodbye to continue the trip, but the
lady held me back. He gave me money while saying:
"Here
is money for you as my thanks".
Me:
"You don't need to give me money. I'm sincere."
She
said: "It's okay to take it, I don't need the money! Instead of having to
take care of these letters,"
she
said while insulting and putting it in my shirt pocket.
Because
he kept insisting, I'd received it.
When
I was on the road, look. The money turned out to amount to 10,000,000 rupiahs.

was touched and said to myself:
"Yes
